"What If?: A Musical Theater Revue" at New Britain Youth Theater
A musical revue of Broadway ballads and blockbusters from 1949 through 2015 will be presented by the Teen Company of New Britain Youth Theater (NBYT) at the Hole in the Wall Theater on February 26, 27 and 28.
Last summer, members of the youth theater’s Teen Company were invited to meet with the show’s director, Angela Klimaytis, to plan a musical revue for the theater’s current season. The group discussed styles of musical revues, themes, and how to choose songs to include. The result of those summer meetings is What If? A Musical Theater Revue.
What If? is a theater revue of songs about characters in conflict and at crossroads—characters making choices, standing up for what they believe in, and becoming their true selves—all told through passionate, heartfelt, and sometimes even comical songs. The revue has been both musically arranged and directed by Klimaytis, with plenty of input from the teen performers themselves. Songs will include solos, duets, small groups, and full-cast numbers performed by the ensemble. As a whole, the songs follow some of life’s joys, frustrations, challenges, and heartbreaks from childhood through young adulthood.
According to NBYT Executive Director Darren Farrington, another exciting element of this show is its venue. “This show will be performed at Hole in the Wall Theater,” says Farrington. “NBYT has worked with many individual actors and directors who are involved with Hole in the Wall, but this is the first official collaboration with our organizations.” Teen performances of the youth theater will continue with the American classic drama, Our Town, in June.
What If? A Musical Theater Revue will be performed at Hole in the Wall Theater, located at 116 Main Street in New Britain. Performances are Friday, February 26, at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 27, at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors. Some song themes and lyrics may be inappropriate for young children. Tickets may be reserved by calling New Britain Youth Theater at 860-515-8115 or may be purchased online at www.nbyt.org.
