Art League Of New Britain To Match Donor $2,500 Challenge To Paint Home
The Art League of New Britain (ALNB) has been extended an offer for a $2,500 Challenge Grant by an anonymous donor to help paint the exterior siding. The Art League must raise $2,500 by May 31st to receive the matching $2,500 from the donor. The Art League has been trying to raise the money to scrape and paint the siding on the circa 1870 carriage house which is one of New Britain’s oldest landmarks. This carriage house is home now to two galleries hosting art shows year round, a professional clay studio, and the original six horse stalls can be seen in another part of the building.
Painting the exterior also involves the costly removal of lead paint and replacing rotted siding. The ALNB, the second oldest art league in the nation, provides a venue for artists of all levels and styles to show their work. The clay studio offers classes, and in the galleries there are classes in painting, digital art, and drawing sessions with live models that draw participants from across the state. The ALNB has also partnered with the YWCA of Berlin/New Britain to raise funds through “Paint Your Own Masterpiece” paint nights.
Those who wish to contribute to this worthwhile effort can send checks payable to ALNB, 30 Cedar Street New Britain, CT. 06052 or you may pay securely on line at http://alnb.org/paint-the-barn/. Anyone wishing to tour the art league may call 860-229-1484 to set up an appointment.
